All About Travel
Hey there traveler! Welcome to this week's post. So far on this blog, I've covered a few different things. From Japan and the Arboretum, to travel mishaps and packing, I like to think I've covered a fair amount of ground. But travel can mean so many things to so many people. It's a very broad topic, and there are tons of little subtopics that can be explored. In today's post, I'd like to cover more ground and share some really cool travel facts from this Buzzfeed article. Who knows? You might learn something new or be inspired to get out of your seat and go on an adventure. Enjoy!
Studies show that money spent on travel makes you happier than money spent on material goods.
You could spend all of your money on things at the mall, or you could spend it to travel somewhere new and exciting! I like buying little trinkets and mementos of the places I travel to. For example, I've started a collection of bracelets. I picked up some traditional ones while visiting Buddhist temples in Japan, and bought a couple handmade ones while in Mexico. They bring back so many wonderful memories, and they bring me so much more joy than my iPhone or my computer.
Benefits of travel are almost immediate. After only a day or two, 89% of people experience significant drops in stress.
There are lots of things you need to pack when you go on a trip, but stress is not one of them. Once you get in the car or on that plane, you can relax and unwind. You know, sometimes I even get anxious from simply spending too much time inside at home. And every time I go out, I feel a hundred times better. That 89% statistic isn't lying.
Did you know that Austrian citizens are said to have the most vacation time of any country?
Austria guarantees workers a legal minimum of 22 paid vacation days and 13 paid holidays each year. I either need to change my citizenship, or America has some catching up to do. According to article linked in the question, the United States is the only developed country in the world without a single legally required paid vacation day or holiday. By law, every country in the European Union has at least four weeks of paid vacation. So guys, it's time to call our policymakers. We have some laws to change.
Honolulu is the only place in the U.S. that has a royal palace.
I didn't know that before reading the Buzzfeed article, but now that I do, I'd like one ticket to Honolulu, please. There are so many places in the U.S. that I'd like to travel to, but Hawaii is definitely at the top of my list. Warm weather, friendly people, and a royal palace? Awesome. Also, the palace isn't just for show. Its official website states that that "There's Always Something Happening" -- once there, you can learn how to make a Hawaiin quilt, research your genealogy and more at classes and workshops, and enjoy a free concert every Friday from 12PM - 1 PM (weather permitting).
Monaco is smaller than Central Park in New York City.

Monaco is smaller than Central Park in New York City.
If you're looking for a manageable vacation, Monaco might be the place for you. Exploring an entire city in a day might be difficult, but that is clearly not the case with this Mediterranean city-state. The picture I've attached to the left really makes me wonder how it could be smaller than Central Park, but the math adds up. Talk about mind-boggling.
I genuinely had a lot of fun learning and sharing these facts with all of you. As the saying goes, 'you learn something new every day'. I'd love to hear what you guys think. Shoot a comment down below, and keep on traveling! Until next week, -Marco
