Welcome to My Home

Hey there, travelers!

So for those of you who don't know, I'm from a tiny town in northeast New Jersey. Now when I say tiny, I mean a population of 5,000 people kind of tiny. I went to a regional high school, so in my case, that means my school was made up of students from 4 different towns.

And when I say northeast New Jersey, I mean the absolute northeast you can possibly travel to in the state. Only minutes from the New York state line, and about half an hour from New York City (or just "The City," as we say).

In the movie Zoolander 2, Ben Stiller plays the character Derek, who starts off as a "hermit crab," living in a remote cabin the frozen wastes of "Extreme Northern New Jersey". That scene made all of us in the theater laugh pretty hard.

I wanted to get close and personal this week, and tell you guys all about my home state! But first, I have to let you know that you should not only associate New Jersey with the TV show 'Jersey Shore'. The Garden State is so, so much more.

  1. DELIS, DINERS, PIZZERIAS GALORE. If you're in Jersey, you're sure to see dozens and dozens of these places. If you can make it through any given town without seeing at least two of each, I will personally give you a million dollars. I won't arrogantly say that we have the best bagels and pizza, but I'm willing to challenge whatever bagels and pizza your home state offers. My favorite bagel shops are Goldberg's (in Old Tappan), Wally's (in Closter), and Ronnie's (in Norwood). I'm getting hungry just typing this.

  2. VIEWS FOR DAYS. We have some really scenic locations where I'm from. In Fort Lee, where George Washing and his troops stationed themselves during the Civil War, is a really cool part -- Fort Lee Historic Park. It's right near the George Washington Bridge, and has great views of New York City.

  3. ALL THE ENTERTAINMENT YOU COULD EVER NEED. Six Flags Great Adventure. Those four words say it all. Six Flags has always been, and always will be, a good time. I have been there countless times and I never get tired of going. If you're big on rollercoasters like myself, you'll love Kinda Ka. There’s a reason this coaster is known as the King. It's the tallest coaster in the world and fastest roller coaster in North America. Is that impressive enough to warrant royalty? You bet it is.

  4. Skip to 0:46 for the action

But if you're not a rollercoaster fanatic, that's quite alright. New Jersey's Six Flags locations offers a safari and water park as well.

  5. ATLANTIC CITY / THE BOARDWALK. One of the most popular coastal resort towns on the Northeastern Coast of the US, Atlantic City is best known for its famous Boardwalk. This four-mile-long promenade is host to numerous resorts and hotels. If you're not wild about walking those four miles, bike rentals or traditional rickshaw-like rolling chairs make a fun alternative. While there, be sure to check out the Entrance to the Stars, with handprints of celebrities such as Frank Sinatra.

  6. I'd love to hear from you guys! Let me know your favorite places at home in the comments below!

  1. As a fellow Jersey-native (South Jersey though, sorry) I couldn't agree more with your points. I actually wrote my blog all about New Jersey last semester in Prof. Kramer's 9 am, so this gave me nostalgia. But, anyhow, I have to argue that we do have the best pizza and bagels, no contest. I also think we are the most aggressive drivers in the country, have many gorgeous views, "Jersey Shore" did more damage than good (coming from Toms river, one mile west of Seaside Heights.) Nice post!
